“While hiking in the Sierra Nevada mountains, we were so enamoured of the adorable Pika mouse.

I was saddened to hear that climate change is drastically affecting their numbers:

The warmer temperatures mean that they don’t grow as much fur, which then can’t be shed to keep their nests warm for the next winter, which leads to a decline in breeding success. “


The American Pika Mouse (Ochotona princeps) looks like a mouse but are actually related to hares and rabbits.

In the 19th Century, they were known as 'Little Chief Hare'.
